Yohan Schmutz-Leong is a state maths champion and an award winner in short story writing.
GRANGE: Yohan Schmutz-Leong has found a successful way to combine maths and soccer. He has worked out a formula to determine if he is a valuable player for his under-9 team at Grange Thistle. The formula works, with the Grange nine-year-old claiming first prize in the Maths Investigations 55th Queensland Science Contest. It comes on top of an Australian Children Literacy Board’s Young Australian Writer Award for a short story Yohan wrote. The story was about his dad Beat and a pirate called Captain Blacktooth. Yohan said he enjoyed playing soccer, writing and performing on the violin, but his future was in science and maths. ``I want to keep doing what I am doing. I am interested in studying living things,’’ he said. His mum Set Lee said it was just like Yohan to find a way to combine two of his loves. ``He wanted to know if he was a good soccer player. ``He is a defensive player, so he was not scoring, but he wanted to find out if mathematically he could determine if he was a good player. His dad was confident it was workable. ``Then Yohan looked at the averages of games to see if he might figure out if he could compare the two teams. The trick is to look at the gap between teams in scoring.’’’’

I re-posted this from the link my cousin sent me. I decided that such an achievement of my family must be a keeper for reminder of what we are all capable full if we release the full potential.
